Marilyn & Tom
Marilyn and Tom tied the knot on the 11th of May 2024 at the stunning St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne and later had the reception at the iconic Eureka 89, which offers an unparalleled experience, perched atop Melbourne Skydeck, where prestige meets innovation.
Marilyn did not know that Tom was going to propose to her on an overseas trip in her dream destination city and was taken completely by surprise. Marilyn tells us,“Tom had the ring seven months before the proposal, he was keeping it hidden from me as he wanted to propose in Europe all along. One sunny morning in Paris, while I was having the best time of my life taking photos in front of the Eiffel Tower, Tom knew it was the perfect moment. After many photos were taken, Tom asked me to stay still and just admire the view. In between hugs and kisses, he said, ‘This is your dream destination, and I am here to always make your dreams come true.’ Slowly Tom got down on one knee, he opened a wooden box with a sparkly diamond ring and asked, ‘Will you marry me?’ I just froze and cried and of course I said Yes! It definitely took me a while to calm down.”
Belle et Blanc bride ‘Marilyn’ came into our bridal store and picked out the stunning ‘Beverly’ wedding dress, a ballgown, with delicate tones of beige and an overlay of ivory beaded appliqué 3-D lace. Marilyn tells us,“I’ve been following Belle et Blanc on Instagram for months, so one Saturday afternoon in October, I thought, why not check out some dresses at Belle et Blanc. I had tried dresses from other shops before, and in my head, my dream dress is an A-line plain satin gown with a split. But I also thought, why not try different styles? So I walked in, and the lovely Rose greeted me with a big smile on her face. I said, ‘I’m just looking around; give me all your size 6 dresses, I don’t mind what style.’ Rose started to pick dresses for me. When I was about to go into the fitting room, I saw ‘my dress’ on the rack. It stood out because of the color and fabric. I told Rose to include it in the selection for me to try on and decided to try it on first. Rose helped me put on this massive princess ball gown and started buttoning the back. She hadn’t even finished buttoning them up, but I already knew it was my dress!” The way it hugged my body, how it fit my waist perfectly, the ideal size and length, and the intricate details made me fall in love with it instantly. I left the shop with my dream dress that day!”
The wedding day for Marilyn and Tom was such a wonderful day, accompanied by their closest friends and family. Marilyn tells us, “Our wedding is so special and exactly what we dreamed of, for a couple of reasons: Firstly, we walked along Flinders Lane, Collins Street, and Southbank for photos. It felt great walking along these iconic Melbourne sites with strangers who were all so generous with their well-wishes. Secondly, our dream was for Reverend Jennifer Furphy, the groom’s mother, to marry us and that’s exactly what happened. She presided over the wedding in St. Paul’s, and we feel blessed and special that one of our parents married us. Additionally, two of our friends were our MCs for the night, making everything personalized and special as they shared stories about us. Lastly, we had a travel-themed wedding, from decorations to wedding favours and cake. Our table names were cities we traveled to, with our photos printed for each table. Our invitation said, ‘Our Greatest Adventure.’ It was wonderful.”
Our entire team of wedding dress designers, are so thankful to Marilyn and Tom, and feel so honoured Marilyn picked Belle et Blanc to be part of their day, and we absolutely love the photographs.
